Furniture; a basic need of every home. Even if you belong to a middle class, lower middle class or Elite class, you need to have a good furniture at your home. Likewise, maintenance of this furniture is also very important. Instead of using highly commercial grade polishes, we can use homemade polishes to clean our furniture at home with less or no effort. Theses commercial grade wooden polishes are available in market but they release highly toxic agents like Volatile Organic Compounds, so we must consider natural homemade polishes which are cost effective and less harmful.

There are some steps involved in polishing of wooden furniture at home. Here we will describe them:
Clean Furniture before Polishing
Before applying polish, one should thoroughly clean all the furniture which is to be polished. Use a wet cloth to wipe all the dust followed by a dry wipe. If there are any stains like grease or white spots, wipe them with a liquid solution having some drops of dish wash liquid in warm water.
Making of Natural Homemade Wooden Polish
There are some homemade or natural polishes which everyone can make at their home, which are considered here:
· 50 ml white vinegar and 200 ml Olive oil (mixture of both)
· 6 drops of lemon extract and 200 ml Mineral oil (mixture of both)
The Vinegar tends to clean the wood while Oil nourishes the wood.
Applying Procedure
Remedies are ready and Now, it’s time to work on it.
· Pour the homemade natural polish into a spray bottle and spray it on fiber cloth (never apply directly the liquid on to wooden furniture). Wipe it with strength and after that first wiping, you will clearly be able to see the difference between old and newly polished wooden furniture. For better results, you should repeat the process up to two repetitions.
· If you want to get deep into the grooves or if the wood has a detail work, then you can simply go with a bristle brush and work on it using a cloth and polish. Use brush to get deep into grooves and after that use cloth to wipe it.
After all this, Now, you can feel the difference between old and Polished wooden furniture.
Tips and Tricks to Care Wooden Furniture
· Clean and dust furniture on regular basis.
· Always use a safe and dry place to store old wooden furniture.
· If furniture has developed an unpleasant odor, sprinkle baking soda to freshen it.
· Avoid exposure with factors like heat, fire or bad weather.
· Use a fiber cloth to clean it.
· If furniture gets stained, remove those stains on priority basis.
· Polish or re-wax your furniture whenever needed.
