BENGALURU: In a chilling incident, a mother allegedly flung her 7-year-old daughter, a child with special needs, from the terrace of a three-storey residential building here on Sunday because she was ‘fed up’ with her behaviour.
What is more horrifying is that the mother, Swathi (34), on seeing that the child was still breathing, took her to the terrace again and tossed her from there, leading to her death.
The inhuman act at Jaraganahalli in JP Nagar sparked a strong outrage in the neighbourhood and the residents tied Swathi to an electric pole and thrashed her before informing the police.
Neighbours say they were horrifed to hear Swathi say that as the child’s mother she has the right to throw her.
A shocked Balaji, elder son of building owner Venkatesh, said the child’s head crashed into the asbestos roof of a neighbouring shed before she fell on the ground.
The deceased has been identified as Ishika alias Shreya, daughter of Swathi and Kanchan Sarkar.
A senior police officer said the incident took place around 3pm when Swathi and Shreya were at the house on the third floor. Enraged over Shreya being stubborn and screaming continuously, she resorted to the inhuman act.
“We have arrested Swathi and during the interrogation she revealed that she was upset over her daughter’s stubbornness which led her to take this step. Her statement has been recorded. She is absolutely normal and we found no symptoms of depression,” the officer added.
