Film is a wonder land and lot of people trying to enter in this industry, especially the youngsters. They are doing lot of hard work for entering film industry. Short films and documentaries are the first possible step for entering film industry where they can showcase their skills and also it becomes the portfolio for them. Lijo Jose Pellissery one of the Malayalam famous film directors had only done one short film and it lead him to get chance to direct a film. And also actors like Aju Varghese, Shabareesh, Krishna etc…
In Tamil film industry also lot of directors came through short films. Vijay TV a Tamil channel conducting a short film contest. The winners are now done their own films and all films are super hit in box office. Some of them also win National awards. Karthik Subbaraj the winner of Vijay TV short film contest directed Tamil film named Jigarthanda, from that movie actor Boby Simha wins National award. So many people are there coming from short films.
The Malayalam channel Kappa TV always conducting a short film contest with a particular theme. You can use mobile camera for shoot the short films. Its time limit is 5 minutes. Anyone can apply if he/she interested. And there are so many Short film festivals like International, National, State such as Script International short film festival, ViBGYOR International Documentary and short film festival, Pune short films festival, BISFF ( Bangalore International Short film festival ) and some organizations are organizing some festivals for supporting the new comers.
Based on a survey there are more than 100 short films uploading in Youtube per day only in South India. Making a short film is also very simple now. Everyone has smart phones now and most of the phones providing full HD 1080p video recording facility. Some people has provisional camera like Canon 5d and Nikon. You can shoot your video using mobile phone or camera. Some festivals has some topics or if there no topics you can get lots of topics surrounding you, even a whatsapp message will also give some spark to us. You can also select some topics that may be clache but that is no matter, the matter is how you presenting or visualizing the topic.
For editing there are lots of free editing software like windows movie editing, VSDC video editor, Wevideo online video edtitor. There is also software like Magix Edit pro is very simple editing software anyone can easily use this. Adobe premiere and Final Cut Pro these are very costly and very tough software without proper training it can’t understand anything. Or there are some tutorials in Youtube but it’s very tough to learn. Magix Edit Pro is also providing a dubbing option. With the use of micro phone including mic we can also dub. Or the video itself record the voice but there is unwanted noise like wind and our breath etc… Avoiding noise is very difficult without affecting the dialogue. Dubbing is better than using the sound recorder in the camera. After editing also chooses proper color tone to your video, it helps to make it very provisional one and also standard one.
