QuillBot & Grammarly are paraphrasing tools which uses AI to suggest you the changes you should make in your content to make it grammatically correct and sounds right.
This service is essential for people who write for their living. Tools like QuillBot and Grammarly nudges you with different words or phrases that you can replace in your content to make it sound more formal or friendly, etc. This makes your content more mature and builds authenticity.
Also, it helps in capturing grammatical mistakes that we may have made while writing and allowing us to correct at the same time.
Plagiarism checker is another such feature which can be handy to check if you have unintentionally created a duplicate content.
Grammarly is quite famous in the market and has huge customer base, while QuillBot has been recently launched on Aug 21, 2021, but is attracting large number of users for its simplicity.
So, the question is that which one is better? Lets dive into it.
Table of comparison
QuillBot vs Grammarly
Grammarly is an online tool for writing correctly, accessible on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. Similar to Quillbot, it also scans texts for spelling mistakes and other grammatical mistakes. I’ve used it since the beginning of my writing career as a freelancer.
But, Grammarly is more than an editor of grammar and spelling. It offers suggestions for improving your writing’s clarity and readability essential for freelance writers.
With more than 30 million users and over 30,000 teams who use Grammarly across the globe They must be doing things right.
If you’re using Grammarly it will give you an overall score at the top of your work that evaluates your work on the basis of accuracy, clarity, engagement and the ability to deliver.
It also offers detailed analysis of sentence length as well as reading time along with the time for speaking. This is useful for video makers and would like to know how long it will take to read an entire script.
When it comes to readability analysis, there are a few other writing tools that are quite close. You can view the length of the sentence, word length and the readability score.
One of the primary reasons I prefer Grammarly because of its sophisticated cross-platform capabilities. You don’t need to duplicate your content and then paste it into Grammarly to begin editing. Install Grammarly, the Grammarly extension and start editing your text using Google Docs, Microsoft Word or Gmail.
Free Plans
Quillbot and Grammarly provide limited free plans. While they’re good options for people who want to gain an idea of the service without investing money but, there are a few features that aren’t as extensive.
Quillbot does not permit you to switch between different modes when you use the free plan. Also, you’re limited to only putting up 400 words at one time.
Grammarly has more flexible free plan, as you can access a variety of useful features, however I’d love to see the two platforms permit users to access more features.
Definitely, Grammarly is winner here.
Premium Plans
Both, Quillbot and Grammarly offer free plans that you can test in case you don’t wish to make a big investment right away. If you use this plan for free, you will be able to test the software.
With Quillbot’s premium version you have the option of choosing between three plans:
- A monthly plan is $4.95 per month.
- The semi-annual plan will cost $24.96 to cover six months
- An annual subscription costs $39.95 per year.
In addition, with Grammarly Premium you also have the option to choose the following pricing options:
- The monthly plan is $29.95 per month.
- A monthly subscription cost $59.95 and is due each three months.
- A subscription to the annual program cost $139 for the year.
Quillbot is certainly the most affordable choice. But, Grammarly provides advanced grammar testing that Quillbot isn’t able to match.
The winner: Quillbot, if only for the cost & Grammarly, for the features
After having used Quillbot as well as Grammarly in order to enhance my writing, for a while in the past, I’ve noticed some particular features are notable.
Sentiment Indicator
This is my personal favorite in Grammarly. It detects overall mood(I like to say in this way :D)of your writing. Whether the tone of your writing is impulsive or thankful, it shows multiple indicators in between them. It also suggest you certain words that you can interchange with existing ones to increase the overall score. Piece of the cake — It also tells you why you are supposed to do that. So, its like learning and writing affectively.
With Grammarly, choose over wide variety of tones for your writing and Grammarly will assist you with that. How cool is that!!
Paraphrasing
With Quillbot it is possible to select between different styles when paraphrasing texts. If you would like your text to appear more formal, you can select more formal modes. If you’re looking to cut or increase the length of text, these options are also accessible.
The Quillbot modes let you modify text according to your preferences.
Winner: QuillBot
Fluency Special feature in paraphrasing helps writers change the tone according to the requirements like formal.
Plagiarism Checker
Plagiarism either accidental or otherwise it is a concern for writers in schools or in college. If you’re a freelancer, you should check whether your writing is plagiarism-free since search engines may punish your website if it believes that you’re publishing duplicate content. Website owners must also must be aware of plagiarism when they commission work from third-party vendors.
Fortunately, with Grammarly it is possible to check the quality of your work against millions of webpages on internet. In this way you don’t need to spend money on a plagiarism tester. It also helps you locate missing links and citations. Quillbot does not provide this service.
Winner: Grammarly
Grammarly Plagiarism Checker feature enables you to check duplicate content on the go.
Usability
Compared to other paraphrases and proofreading tools like Wordtune and Ginger, Quillbot and Grammarly are the easiest to use. Signing up takes a few seconds, and once completed, you’ll get a tutorial on using the software.
Google Chrome extensions are also available for both of these tools to permit you to review your writing. But, Grammarly also enables you to accept its suggestions in one click via the application and add-on.
Winner: Grammarly
Grammarly in action showing the necessary paraphrasing along with analytics & plagiarism.
What I dislike about these platforms
While both platforms are extremely beneficial to writers, both platforms could enhance in certain aspects:
- There’s a word limit of 10000 words when using Quillbot
- You can’t summarize text using Grammarly.
- Free plans are not vast and are limited
Even if you’ve subscribed to the premium version of Quillbot, you’ll still be subject to a limit of 10000 words. This isn’t suitable when you’re writing an entire novel, you will have to copy, paste 10000 words multiple times.
Unlike Quillbot, Grammarly can’t summarize long paragraphs of text. It’s primary focus is on correcting spelling errors as well as making writing condensed. If you’re in search of an instrument that will help you summarize your writing, choose Quillbot instead.
My Testing Criteria
While writing this article I have compared the paid and free versions of Quillbot with the premium and free editions of Grammarly. I used the following factors to determine whether these tools are viable alternatives for students and professionals.
- Accuracy
- Affordability
- Flexibility
Quillbot as well as Grammarly, both meet the requirements because the majority of their changes are precise and correct. They also aid in reading comprehension by suggesting how to change words to improve clarity.
In terms of cost, Quillbot and Grammarly won’t cost you a fortune even if you’re only beginning out as freelance writer. They’re also extremely adaptable because they include SEO tools as well as an automated plagiarism detection tool.
Why trust me
I’ve used Quillbot along with Grammarly since the start of my journey as a freelancer and it has helped me save lots in time and money. When I first started I was unable to grasp many of the fundamentals regarding grammar and syntax consequently, my writing was chaotic.
After I began using Quillbot and Grammarly, I noticed that my writing skills increased almost instantly. I love these tools since they will explain the reason and what you can do to avoid making this error again whenever they suggest changing the way you write. I compiled an inventory of the most common mistakes and, when writing, determined to stay clear of these.
Now I’m confident in my writing abilities and can avoid making the same mistakes I made in the past. If I make spelling errors I am able to rest my assurance on the fact that Quillbot or Grammarly will catch them.
QuillBot vs Grammarly: Conclusion
While Quillbot and Grammarly cannot substitute for a human editor, however, they can both help simplify the process of self-editing. Writing assistants such as Quillbot and Grammarly are effective in spotting spelling mistakes and unreadable writing. They also offer suggestions on how to fix errors.
The two Quillbot as well as Grammarly are worth the investment because they’ll help you improve your writing abilities in a matter of minutes and save you a lot of time in editing your work.
After using both of them for several years I’m able to confidently affirm that Grammarly’s features are more reliable and has more features. The grammar checker and plagiarism tools are a must for freelancers or content marketers and entrepreneurs.
If you’re feeling like you’re working too much on editing, I recommend you use Grammarly. It assists you in identifying mistakes in grammar, spelling and frequent use of words. These are essential when it comes to posting online content.
Quillbot is the cheapest one of them (at the lowest compared to Grammarly Premium) however, it comes with fewer features. It’s a good idea to use Quillbot for content that you reuse frequently or require an affordable assistant to write. Quillbot is also a great option when you need to paraphrase long texts.
Grammarly Premium is more expensive. You should consider it if you require advanced artificial intelligence to improve your work and spot plagiarism issues. It’s also a good option for those who collaborate alongside other authors. I like using the no-cost version despite the fact that the reports aren’t as extensive.
Thank you for reading.
