Writing task 1

The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and making comparisons where relevant.
(Write at least 150 words)

The diagram demonstrates the process of electricity production via geothermal energy.

In the initial stages, cold water stored above ground in what appears to be a tank separate from the main power plant is sent into a four and a half kilometre-long injection well located below ground where it passes though what is labelled as the “geothermal zone” that consists of hot rocks. Following these sections, in what we can term the middle section of the process, the now hot water is channelled up the production well into a condenser located above the ground and part of the main complex.

In the closing stages of the process, the water is then converted to steam and passed through a pipe into another building containing a turbine which is rotated by the now vaporised water. In turn, the turbine powers a generator (also housed in the same building) that produces electricity to be sent along power lines.

Generally, the process diagram details the key stages of how a geothermal power plant functions from the time water is introduced to the system to the time electricity is produced.
