Google has taken down sidebar ads globally

Last week It was theatrical in the digital marketing world. There were a couple of the dramatic changes has been noticed and which will directly reflect in the SERP. And one of them was, Google has taken down sidebar ads globally. Now the question will it impact on the Organic search? How it is going to impact on the Organic traffic? And obviously what Google is planning to have on that blank space? Let’s discuss them one by one.

Let’s see what happened in last week?

Google has updated and confirmed that they turned off the sidebar ads globally, and instead of three ads on the top now they will be showing 4 ads on the top on highly commercial queries & organic result has been pushed down from the first fold of the SERP.

Will it Impact on organic search any how?

According to the research release “The Value of Google Result Positioning” the breakdowns clearly indicate that most of the clicks are happening on the first result. Approx 33% of the traffic is clicking on the first result. But this would remain same? Well, many SEO consultants and user behavior analyst has stated that this is going to impact the organic clicks. I also trust that it will be impacting on the organic journey…

How Internet marketers are reacting on this?

I was reading blogs on other portals, and have found something very interesting and which is actually showing the frustration or a marketer. Though I would not take the name of that portal, but would like to share the screenshot with you. I do buy his concern and completely agree with that.

What Google is saying on it?

Searchengineland connected with the Google and Google’s official statement on that was;

We’ve been testing this layout for a long time, so some people might see it on a very small number of commercial queries. We’ll continue to make tweaks, but this is designed for highly commercial queries where the layout is able to provide more relevant results for people searching and better performance for advertisers.

Google has admitted that these changes are being held globally and they are no longer going to support text ads in the sidebar.

There are some facts about these changes I trust you should go through that too.

  • No text ads will be placed on the right sidebar
  • Google will we serving 4 ads on the top for high commercial search queries
  • 3 text ads will be shown on the bottom of the page.
  • Maximum ads on the page will be 7
  • Product listings (Google listing), Knowledge graph can appear on the blank space in the sidebar.

Will it impact on the CPC?

Well, I guess yes! It’s all about the demand and supply. From the business point of view, it is a clever move from Google. And trust me they will give definitely going to take the back of user experience. As I am hoping that they will make a Press release or will do a blog and will talk about that sooner or later. And their agenda will be a mobile user experience.

What you need to understand?

Well, being a digital marketing consultant I would say this is not only going to impact on the PPC or SEO, it is going to work for both. Most of the business are going to pay for this in long run, as I am expecting that CCP is going to be high and would be impacting on the organic conversions as well.
