4) Bajaj Pulsar AS 150

The Pulsar AS is the new 150cc Motorcycle from Bajaj and it is warmly welcomed by the Indian enthusiasts. The striking styling, good performance, a basket full of features and affordable pricing made it a wholesome package. In the looks department, The AS is surely something that Pulsar fans will readily accept. That Semi-Fairing makes the bike look Touring-Friendly, while the Projector Headlamp and a visor makes the Pulsar’s Sporty Intentions clear!

The MRF Zappers do a good job of holding the road and providing ample amount of grip all throughout. It’s commendable how much effort Bajaj has taken in the handling department, especially when you compare it to the last generation Pulsar. The bike’s riding position, though sporty, leans more towards comfort.

The seat height is a bit tall so shorter riders would have little difficulty to embark and disembark from the saddle. The one thing that Pulsar need to improve is its Braking System while Honda and Yamaha Bikes cherish on it.

5) Honda CB Hornet

Honda CB Hornet 160r is the latest entrant in Sub-160cc segment bikes. Honda Motorcycles have always been conservatively styled and same is the case of Hornet 160r. But with the new CB Hornet 160R, the Japanese two-wheeler giant wanted to offer something sporty and exciting for young Indian consumers.

The CB Hornet looks sporty with its greatly sculpted lines. The edgy fuel tank design, sharp looking tail section with the X-shaped LED tail lamp and the beefy rear tyre does make the new motorcycle look visually appealing.

The Hornet comes in two variants — the base variant with standard disc brakes and one with Combi-Brake System (CBS) which costs almost Rs 5000 more.

The Honda patented Combi-Braking System is an efficient braking system present in Honda bikes. What it actually does is, whenever you use the brakes, front or back, the bike actually uses both the brakes gently so that the rider does not lose control over the bike whenever intense braking is applied.

Overall Honda CB Hornet is a great package of efficient and refined engine and great set of brakes. The one thing this bike is on the negative side is the Vibes making by the engine whenever it tries to hold a 3 digit figure in the speedometer.

The engine vibrates a lot whenever it tries to keep above 95 kmph. And another thing on the negative side is lack of the Engine kill switch. Due to the lack of Engine kill switch you may feel irritating sometimes if you are used to it. Otherwise this bike is a great one and its absolutely worth of money.

Maximum Power -15.66 BHP @ 8500 rpm

Maximum Torque -14.76 NM @ 6500 rpm

6) TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS

The TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS is the first ever Indian-made bike with the Anti-lock braking system(ABS) technology. It does’nt have many cosmetic changes as compared to the previous versions. Anyways the headlight is aggressively designed and the visor is a bit sporty.

The riding position is bit a lean forward type and the pegs are placed according to that. Unlike Hero bikes you don’t have to hold the foot pegs to use the kick. It has a wheel base of 1326 mm. The change along with the inclusion of ABS has improved its ride quality significantly. The handling is exceptional and it hits the corners easily.

The best part of the bike is the best braking system which was never before experienced in its class. The ABS does’nt allow the wheels to lock so that it would never skid! The Brakes gives you the confidence when you are riding fast and it is always in control. It has the best braking system ever seen in any Indian made bikes.

It comes in two shades — White and Black. The pricing is bit higher for it’s qualities but anyhow, if safety is your top priority you should go for it.

The bike also comes with an additional feature that you can Switch off the ABS whenever you don’t want to use it. The console is smartly carbon finished. The LCD records top three 0–60 kmph timings and top speed.

Displacement -177.4 cc

7) Hero Karizma R

The Hero Karizma R Version 2.0 created lot of buzz when Hero Motcorp showcased it at a press conference at Gurgaon on October 10,2013 as it hadn’t seen much changes since its arrival in Indian market in 2007.

The new version of Karizma comes with some notable features like Clip-on handlebar, dual round headlights with clear lens indicator, rear view mirrors mounted on front cowl, added graphics on its body, slightly raised tail section, 18-inch alloy wheels with wider tires, new front fairing and sporty seating.

The Instrument console consists of analog speedometer and tachometer, digital fuel gauge, two trip meters, clock, low fuel indicator and side stand indicator. It has a kerb weight of 154 kg and fuel tank capacity of 15 litres.

Hero Karizma R has a 223cc, single cylinder, 4-stroke, air cooled, advanced microprocessor ignition system, OHC based engine which is slightly tweaked to give a maximum power of 19.2 bhp at 7500 rpm and maximum torque of 19.35 Nm at 6000 rpm which is about 1 Nm increase in comparison to the 2012 Karizma R. The engine is mated with 5-speed gear box.

It can accelerate from 0–60 in just 3.8 seconds! It offers a combined mileage of 35 kmpl. It can reach upto 132 kmph. The engine feels extremely refined and packs the punch in lower gears sprinting enthusiastically. But it is still very sluggish to reach its top speed. The engine takes a lot of time to warm-up at the start, but the refinement while on the run is still unmatched.

The Karizma R misses out the Engine-kill switch that most of its rivals get. And there are no other additional features like under seat mobile charger while the younger sibling Xtreme is equipped with. The new fairing adds to the misery as its rattles a lot while sending the vibrations to the mirrors rendering them useless on the run. But the motorcycle still offers a good ride and it is definitely not better than the previous model ZMR.

Displacement -223 cc

Maximum Power -19.2 BHP @ 7500 rpm

Maximum Torque -19.35 NM @ 6000 rpm

Engine Description -Air cooled, 4-Stroke 1-Cylinder OHC

Price :- Rs 83,900(Ex-Showroom,Delhi)

Rs 96,466(On-Road,Chennai)

Top Speed — 132 Kmph

8) Bajaj Avenger Street 220

The Avenger Street 220 is the next version of the Avenger Cruise 220. The Cruise 220 is an old school Highway cruiser whereas the Street 220 is kind of a cruiser but slightly with a street touch in it, which helps the bike to be more comfortable and manoeuvrable in the stop and go conditions.

The Street 220 seems to be inspired from the American Motorcycle brand, Harley-Davidson’s entry level cruiser, Street 750. Compared to its older version cruise, the street gets a blacked-out frame, a flat handlebar, alloy wheels and matte black color scheme for the engine. The tank and other cycle parts are identical to its older version. The cruise 220 has a swept back handlebar which feels like a more relaxed cruiser. On the other hand the Street 220 has a flat handlebar which feels more aggressive and sporty. The Street 220 has an addition of a new LCD display in the instrument console, which integrates the trip and the odometer.

The Bajaj Avenger 220 Street measures 2177 mm in length, 801 mm in width and 1070 mm in height. It gets a wheelbase of 1490 mm and comes with 169 mm of ground clearance. The bike weighs 150 kg. The seat height for the bike is 725 mm. Both the models comes with an identical price tag, so the choice of choosing one is entirely up to you.

The only thing where the Avenger is lacking is the vibe factor. The vibrations start early even at 70 kmph in fifth gear. And where it reaches 100 kmph the vibrations are highly uncomfortable and being felt at handlebars, tank, foot pegs and even the seat. Overall the Bajaj Avenger’s price is highly justified with its features and if you are a cruiser lover, you should definitely go for it.

Displacement -219.9 cc

Maximum Power -18.8 Bhp @ 8400 rpm

Maximum Torque -17.5 Nm @ 7000 rpm

Engine Description -Twin Spark, 2-valve, DTS-i engine
