DIY Lacing Toy

My first attempt at a DIY Lacing Toy was more than a year ago. At the time I had attempted it using cardboard and tried a watermelon but it was soon bent and tore up right in the middle!

Ever since I’ve been planning on making something rock solid and durable. Finally got down to working on it. Here goes step by step pics for anyone who wants to try their hand at it.

Steps 1 to 8:

1) Draw a stencil on paper

2) Roll out some air dry clay

3 &4) Trace and cut along stencil cut out

5&6 Poke in holes using a straw or refill

7) Leave to dry (for atleast 3 – 4 days)

8) Once the clay is hard and set, draw out the finer details

Now you’re all set to do the fun bit which is paint and jazz it up

I also used an acrylic 3D white paint cone to make the holes look real.

Add on the shoe lace and voila!

Sanika had a go at it & loved it!

At the moment , she’s just doing the Lacing bit but the plan is to also teach her how to tie a shoe lace / bow soon!

Happy crafting!
