Hello, I’m Suguru, the CFO and head of global business expansions at Findy, a company based in Japan. Today, I have relocated to Bangalore, and from here, I will be spearheading Findy’s global strategy. In this article, I’ll write down why we chose Bangalore and how we plan to conquer 2024.

01. Why India?

At Findy, our vision is to create a platform for challenging engineers. We offer matching services for engineers and organizations, as well as a SaaS product that supports engineering organization management using algorithms we have developed in-house.

In Jan 2022, we tested our scoring to global markets and the registered users reached 7,000 registrations in just three months, half of which came from India. The high skill scores from India were evident in the data.

Searching for “India Engineers” reveals that many global IT companies have development bases in Bangalore, and Japanese companies are no exception. Leading companies like Rakuten and Mercari have already ventured into Bangalore. Missing this movement felt like falling behind in a world already stepping forward.

Initially, I had no appointments or connections, but I reached out through acquaintances and LinkedIn, meeting various people. This led to invitations to tech meetups by our investors in Bangalore and events organized by JETRO. Gradually, I started to see Bangalore as a key hub for global expansion, conducting detailed corporate hearings that led to today.

02. The Significance of Global Challenges Through India

a. Japan’s Decline and the Need for Globalization

I feel Japan is gradually declining. Asia is no longer cheap, and the value of the Japanese yen is falling. Globally, the influence of Japanese products is diminishing. Major companies like Toyota, Suzuki, DAIKIN, SONY, Toshiba, Hitachi, NTT still play a significant role worldwide, but in the software domain, Japan is lagging, with no new major companies following these leaders. The globalization of Japanese development organizations is a key to the future.

b. Partnering with Talented Indian Teams

In my travels to India, it became clear that Indians are truly talented. India boasts the world’s largest population and engineer population. Many of the top executives and startup founders in Silicon Valley are of Indian origin. They are thriving not just in America but globally. With India attracting significant investment and home to over 100 unicorn companies compared to just a few in Japan, it seems partnering with these talented individuals rather than competing could be the key for Japanese companies to succeed globally.

03. How to Tackle 2024?

The number of engineers worldwide is increasing, estimated at 26 million and expected to reach 30 million in a few years. India alone is said to have 5 million engineers, while Japan has 1.2 million.

Post-COVID, remote work has developed further, making it common to form engineering teams in various countries and cities.

Speaking with top engineers, I’ve sensed a growing demand for increased development productivity, clarity on how engineering work connects to outcomes, and a desire to visualize development efficiency.

Therefore, we decided to globally deploy Findy Team+, already used by nearly 300 companies in Japan. It’s a tool that analyzes data from GitHub, GitLab, and Jira to visualize engineer productivity and enhance development efficiency.

With frameworks like SPACE and DORA gaining traction globally to improve development efficiency and engineering experiences, our tool is attracting significant attention.

From IT-rich Bangalore, we aim to expand this tool and take on the challenge of building a global engineering platform.

04. In Conclusion

With my relocation to Bangalore, I embark on a new challenge. By fully committing and creating a no-retreat environment, we aim to forge a new path. The journey won’t be easy, but please look forward to Findy’s global challenge. Your support is greatly appreciated.
