All in stones

I was in for a surprise. I hadn’t expected the monastery to be so beautifully constructed; like the type they show in the movies or what the mind visualizes when reading about monasteries and monks going about their lives. Ananda Budha Vihara, the monastery located in Mahendra Hills, is, perhaps, the best place I visited in a long time.

The huge golden Buddha statue inside the monastery had a calming effect. I am not sure if it was the grand size of the Lord or the Buddha itself that instilled a sense of stability, but there sure was something about it. Or was it the architecture of the monastery, made all in stones, which made me happy. I am not sure.

It was also the first time I saw a Buddhist monk clad in a piece of reddish maroon cloth.
