The Parenting Trick

Just remembered a conversation that happened many months ago.
Presenting a rough translation from my native Marathi language.

Mom: I have my concerns about what Uber and Ola must be doing to the auto-rickshaw and taxi industry — and the state of labor in the country.

Me: Come on, it’s all about the user experience! Freedom and happiness and convenience! Getting whatever your 💓 really desires at a moment’s notice. Seeing and feeling things that you previously couldn’t!

Mom: Just shut the fuck up, going by those words tomorrow you will be advocating the use of drugs in the name of user experience.

Me: Uhmm, never mind. I’m hungry.. what’s there to eat?

Mom: I am sure there is an app for that.

This is not meant to be a commentary or judgement of what is wrong or right. But it just goes to show how valid both sides of an argument can be and how so many of us can be misled with a false sense of pride and purpose.
