Islam is a religion that relates to peace and not just as a belief, but also as a way of life. Islam means peace with all its senses of meaning, which includes inner peace, harmony, love, and trust.
Peace is one of the most common concepts found in many religious texts. It can be viewed as an ideal or objective; it can also be perceived as an agreement or treaty between two parties who have different objectives. In Islam, peace is understood in terms of faith and action; it has to do with what believers believe and practice on a daily basis.
This article will focus on the history of Islamic peace from both hadith and contemporary scholars such as Al-Ghazali (1058–1111), Imam Al-Ghazali was a Muslim theologian, philosopher, jurist, mystic, logician, and ascetic from Al-Mukalla in modern Yemen who played a vital role in preserving classical Islamic sciences during the 11th century CE Dark Ages.
The history of peace is not new. It has been around since the beginning of human civilization. Peace has always been a part of the human experience.
However, it has been misrepresented and misrepresenting the true nature of peace in history has led to its downfall. Peace is not weakness nor pacifism but rather an understanding that violence should only be used as a last resort when all other means have failed and no longer serve any purpose.
The misrepresentation of peace began with the Arab conquerors during the early Islamic era who brought with them their customs and practices from Arabia which triggered a new era of misinterpretation called Jihad.
The Arabs had a very different idea about peace than what Europeans or other civilizations have come to understand. They believed in spreading Islam through war and conquest which legitimized violence as a tool for spreading Islam instead of rejecting it outright as most people today do when thinking about jihad today.
There is a misconception that Muslims have been violent and intolerant towards others. The truth, however, is quite the opposite. Muslims have been revered for their peacefulness and tolerance. Even in their history, Muslims have shown how peaceful they really were. Here we will explore the Islamic history of peace and how it has inspired people to live in harmony with one another.
