ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) vs. ETL (Extract, Transform, Load)

ELT (Extract, Load, Transform)

ELT is a data integration process that involves extracting data from multiple sources, loading it into a target system, and then transforming it into a usable format. This approach leverages the processing power of the target system (often a cloud data warehouse) to perform transformations after the data has been loaded.

Key Differences from ETL (Extract, Transform, Load):

  1. Order of Operations:
  • ELT loads data into the target system first and then transforms it.
  • ETL transforms data before loading it into the target system.

2.Data Processing:

  • ELT processes data within the target system, utilizing its native processing power.
  • ETL processes data externally or during the transformation phase before loading it.

3.Data Storage:

  • ELT stores raw, unprocessed data in the target system, enabling flexible and on-demand transformations.
  • ETL stores pre-processed, transformed data in the target system.

4.Data Transformation:

  • ELT performs transformations within the target system, using its capabilities for large-scale data processing.
  • ETL uses dedicated ETL tools and external…
