I did consider using ideology, as well as Kant’s “teleology” but both terms are both too specific and not general enough. Both describe an immanent structure that points to one particularity. What I wanted to grasp as a totality was the many ideologies and teleologies at play. Rather than approaching one ideology or many ideologies which may not share a lifeworld, context seemed to be the most general term, even though it’s use may be too broad. There really isn’t a word for what I want, but market/marketplace of ideas seems about right… hence the comparison between derivatives and content.
Social media makes a marketplace of content whereas mass media makes a marketplace of content for ideology.
