Practicing Happiness to Boost Your Success: Countering Negativity

“Positive → Success not Success → Positive”

Start the day with positivity

Sir Winston Churchill quotes, “The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible”. In the life, it is very important to remain positive in every situation, especially in the negative context. We always struggle to remain positive and thinks that positivity comes with the success. But the great psychologist Shawn Achor says, “Happiness fuel success, not the other way around. When we’re positive, we’re more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient and productive”. He basically says that success is with happiness, not the vice versa. I also face negative thoughts and condition of depression like I was facing it recently due to the less time management. I became totally negative about me and I was thinking that I’m the only bad person in the world who is not able to manage time (However, we must feel bad for less time management but not by reducing the positivity and not lose the hope — I call positivity by hope). So, to counter my feelings, I watched the TED Talk of Shawn Achor and found the ways to reduce it like 90% of the happiness is not predicted by the external world but the way brain processes the world. So, I can use this concept to reduce my negativity by changing my lens of viewing the world and myself. In addition to this, Shawn Achor also suggested 5 steps to positive change. These steps are:

1. 3 Gratitude: Write down three NEW things that you are grateful for each day.

2. Journaling: About(write) a positive experience you’ve had recently for two minutes once a day.

3. Exercise: Engage in 15 minutes of mindful cardio activity.

4. Meditation: Watch your breath go in and out for two minutes a day.

5. Random act of kindness. Write a two-minute positive email thanking a friend or colleague, or compliment someone you admire on social media.

Quote of the day

I choose first 3 of 5 steps to practice during this week. It was a different experience for me to practice these as I was saying thanks to everyone I was meeting, writing the positive experience in my personal diary that I keep for the life quotes and doing the cardio activity. In result of these, I felt positive throughout the week and it helped me to cover up my negativity. During the week, I also observed that I’m more relax and energetic from the previous weeks so my productivity increased as I completed my project work 1 day before the submission deadline.

Mental process

Apart from my experiences, I would love to suggest these steps to do these either you’re fighting with your negativity or not because as per the Shawn Achor,

“90% of the happiness is not predicted by the external world but the way brain processes the world”.

So, go for these steps, boost your positivity and enjoy your life.

Gratitude is your attitude

That’s what I’ve to say………
