A strange man at night raises my hackles. A taxi driver taking me to a strange place doesn’t make me fear rape — it makes me fear death. If I am killed during a mugging gone wrong I will just be a statistic. A larger man accosting me at the bar can leave me disfigured or dead with a powerful, solitary punch. There will be no social outcry or international movement or blog post for people like me. For us, it’s just life as normal.
