What is Central Teacher Eligibility Test in India?

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test for recruitment of teachers has been made compulsory by the central government for all elementary school teachers. CTET is an All India examination made compulsory in all the states for recruitment of teachers. The private’s sector schools also use CTET scores for the recruitment of teachers.

The candidates need to score 60% marks in the CTET for recruitment of teachers in the schools. The state governments will conduct their own TET for the appointment of new teachers, to test the skills, aptitude and responsibility of the teachers for children.

Eligibility for CTET:

For Primary Stage (Classes 1 to 5):

The candidates should have a senior secondary certificate (or its equivalent), with at least 50 per cent marks. The candidates must have passed or appeared in any one of the following courses:

1. Should have passed or appeared in the final year of 2-year diploma in elementary education.

2. The candidates should be graduates and they should have passed or appeared in final year of two-year diploma in Elementary Education.

3. Should have passed or appeared in the final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

For Elementary Stage (Classes 6 to 8)

The candidates applying should be graduates with 50% marks. The candidates should also have passed or appeared in one of the following courses:

1. Should have passed or appeared in final year of 2-year diploma in Elementary Education.

2. Should have passed or appeared in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) programme, in accordance with the NCTE

3. Should have passed or appeared in final year of 4 years Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) programme.

4. Should have passed or appeared in final year of 4 years B.A/B.Sc.B.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed programme.

5. Should have passed or appeared in 1 year B.Ed. (Special Education) programme.
