Hearing her parents’ words and her mother’s soft sobs, Nafisa almost collapsed to the floor.

What the hell was going on?!?

Her parents were planning to wipe her memories. Again? The causal way they mentioned it was as if they were just stopping at the store to get some milk on the way back home.

Wipe her memory?

Got her powers again?

As the words from her parents’ discussion kept ringing through her mind, Nafisa could feel her body weaken.

She needed to leave. She needed to get out of here and find some time to think through the implications.

If what she had overheard was true, then she had seen something very dangerous yesterday. so dangerous that her parents were afraid that Vincent Grace had seen it too. So dangerous that her memory needed to be wiped.

Holding her breath, she began to turn away, when a friendly voice called out.

“Miss Radi? Why have you been standing here for a while? Are you tired? Were you not able to find your parents? Should I help you look for them?”

Shit.

Nafisa turned and saw the nurse she had talked to earlier approaching. After shooting a glare at the nurse, she collected herself and turned the corner, making sure to walk as naturally as possible. When she met the gaze of her parents she stopped a distance away and began complaining as she usually did.

“Mom? There you are. Can you get me some food? I’m hungry? The doctor never came.” Nafisa whined while staring at her parents. She evaluated their expressions, taking in the warm look that settled over their previously panicked expression.

“Nafisa, didn’t I tell you I would be right back? I wanted to tell your father something. Stop being stubborn and head back to your room.” Her mom quickly smiled while approaching her.

Glancing between her mother and father, she took a step back.

Noticing her hesitation, her father’s expression became cold.

“Did you hear?”

“What?”

“Were you listening to your mother and I’s conversation?” Her father asked again, his tone cold.

“What? No. I was bored and walking around looking for Mom since she was gone for so long.” Nafisa held her hands up and shook her head innocently.

Her father narrowed his eyes at her, before softly saying.

“Memory wipe.”

She flinched before she could help it butt tried to play it off.

“Ahaha dad, what are you talking about.”

“You heard us. Come here Nafisa. Now!” His tone thundered throughout the hallway, causing her to jump.

She immediately turned to run although she knew it was hopeless. Even without his powers, her father was stronger and faster than her. Not to mention her mother. The only way she could possibly get out was to run fast and hope they got distracted.. Although it was a foolish plan, she didn’t know what else to do. Too many things were happening on such short notice.

As she ran, her bare feet slapped the floor hard as she did her best to run away.

Where was the exit?

Before she could get far, she felt something hit the back of her neck. Then her eyes began closing and she fell.

Thump.

Nurse Pepper watched eyes wide as Aaron Radi carried his daughter gently in his arms after knocking her unconscious.

As he walked towards her, she gulped nervously before collecting her resolve and speaking up.

“Uhm, sir. You need to take her back to the room so the doctor can see her. Kn-knocking someone unconscious like that could have adverse effects! Also, I’ll have to report your actions on knocking out a patient and have you leave the premises as I will be calling the cops.” Although she was shivering in fear, Nurse Pepper’s gaze was firm as she stared him down.

Aaron Radi glared at the shivering woman who dared stand up to him even though she was afraid.

“You plan on reporting it even if I’m the patient’s father and a hero?”

“Even if you were the pope himself, I would report it. Most assault cases are people the victims know or people in positions of power. I plan on doing the right thing and reporting it. You may retaliate however you want.” Nurse Pepper replied firmly.

“Report away. I’m glad there are people like you at this job. ” Aaron Radi smiled sardonically before carrying Nafisa back to her room.

Arianna Radi stared at the nurse silently for a moment before following her husband.

Nurse Pepper quickly rushed to the nurses’ station to follow the proper procedures by filing a report and calling the doctor. When she was finally free, several hours had passed and it was time for her lunch break.

“Hey, I’m headed to Chipotle. Do you want me to grab you anything?” Her male coworker asked her with a smile.

“No thanks. I’m so tired. I’m going to grab a snack from the vending machine and take a nap.” Nurse Pepper replied while stretching. The man gazed at her appreciatively before looking away.

“These triple shifts are kicking your ass huh?”

“Like you wouldn’t believe it. Still, I’m in my home stretch then I’m on break.” Nurse Pepper sighed while rubbing her neck.

“You’re doing great! If you’re looking for the best quiet room to nap, the one on the 5th floor is great and usually empty. It has a bathroom attached as well so I highly recommend it.”

“Thank you!” Nurse Pepper gave him a bright smile.

Once he was gone, she got her snack and quietly made her way to the quiet room on the 5th floor. After making sure the main door was locked, she entered the bathroom, locked its door, and ran the water.

As she stared in the mirror, her appearance began to shift. The cute girl next door appearance she had slowly morphed into a gorgeous woman with caramel-colored skin, honey-brown eyes, and long dark curls pulled into an afro puff.

Pulling out her cell phone, she dialed a number from memory and waited for the other line to pick up.

“Kim.” A cold voice sounded over the phone.

“Boss. Interesting news for you. Regarding the one in the hospital.”

“Tell me.” The voice ordered.

Nurse Pepper, now the woman called Kim related the whole scene with Aaron Radi, Arianna Radi, and Nafisa Radi.

“Very good. You’ve earned a nice bonus for yourself.” The tone of the voice finally warmed up the slightest. Bit.

“Thank you, boss. Anything else?”

“Continue keeping watch while keeping your distance. If anything else happens note it down but don’t report until your shift is done. If you have time, open some windows. I’m having Aria listen in. When you have some free time, come to the underground.”

“Got it, goodbye boss.”

Click.

The phone cut off and the record of the phone was wiped.
