Classical Approaches of Communication in any Work Place

This week’s class matter was mainly about the Classical Approaches to communication, more specifically in the work place. According to the “Machine Metaphor,” everyone is replaceable as they are set and taught the same skills. If one person were to get out of line, they could easily be terminated and replaced with someone new. This approach helped me to understand that this is how most work places run, therefore I find it important for an employee who wants to strive in their work, to stand out and be more than just a tool…but at the same time, not too much. There are three basic classical approaches; Specialization, standardization, and predictability. The functions of these aspects are basically their obvious definition in relation to organizational communication. Specialization is to have a specific function, standardization is to be standard, and predictability is to know which way something functions. In class, hierarchy within the work place is also a classical approach because one must be a leader for the rest to follow. Classical approaches in the work place seem to create more efficient work experiences as they aid in keeping every “machine” where they belong.
