What’s the problem?

The Trump Administration’s achievements include an unemployment rate that has decreased significantly, a growing U.S. economy and an inflation of costs that has helped achieve the Federal Reserve’s 2 percent target.

Despite all that, there are still several economic issues to consider for the upcoming midterm election.

Many are familiar with Roe v. Wade as the case that legalizes abortion nationwide, but it encompasses more than just the issue of law.

Roe v. Wade was decided 45 years ago on the right of privacy and the personal freedom that is “a woman’s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy.” In 1973, it was a crime in nearly all U.S. states for a person to terminate their pregnancy unless it was within the restricted allowances: to preserve the person’s health, in instances of rape or incest or if there was fetal anomaly.

Two high-profiled sexual assault cases were heard during the last weeks of September, but they ended with very different outcomes.

Former actor Bill Cosby had been accused several times of drugging and sexually assaulting at least 60 women throughout the past decades. On Sept. 25, 2018, Cosby was found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault and must formally register as a sexually violent predator. Cosby’s lawyers are currently seeking a retrial.

What’s the problem?

Climate change, which encompasses global warming, refers to the rising sea levels, shrinking of mountain glaciers, melting ice in Antartica and the Artic as well as shifts in crop yields. It’s caused mainly by people using fossil fuels (like coal and oil) and releasing greenhouse gases (heat-trapping gases) into the air. According to NASA, it’s a serious problem.

Climate change can cause drastic changes in the weather, and most likely contributed to the destructive nature of hurricanes during the recent years.

California has been a blue state for the past few decades, and is unlikely to change during the midterm elections. It has the most congressional districts (53) and the delegation currently includes 39 Democrats and 14 Republicans, with many of the incumbents seeking re-election.

California voters must be registered by or before Oct. 22.

Absentee ballots and vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked on or before election day and must be received by voters’ respective county elections official by Nov. 9.

As Arizona prepares for the 2018 midterm elections, the majority-red state has experienced an increase in registration numbers from Democratic voters. Although that surge in number is still much lower than the lead Republicans have in Arizona, it just may affect Arizona’s midterm elections results.

Crazy Rich Asians and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before are bringing Asian-American representation back to the spotlight.

Both films were released to theaters and Netflix respectively during August and received ratings of more than 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. A month later, both films continue to surge in popularity among teenagers and adults alike.

Last week, content from the far-right, conspiracy theory website Infowars was removed from some of the world’s largest content platforms including Apple, Youtube, Facebook and Spotify.
