On Friday, June 24th, the Philadelphia Phillies will face the San Fransisco Giants at the Phillies’ home field. Let’s take a look at how the Phillies have been preforming in the 2016 season:
The Phillies have had a somewhat turbulent season with multiple team players out with injuries. Some injuries have taken extended amounts of time to recover and others have prevented players from returning period.
Phillies officials are pondering a reconstruction of pitching/roster moves as the team concludes up a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins and gets ready to head to San Francisco for a weekend series against the Giants.
The pitching roaster all depends on the health of reliever Andrew Bailey and starter Vince Velasquez.
Velasquez has been ruled out with a mild strain of his right biceps after pitching a 97 mph ball on June 8. He pitched five innings Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Bailey felt some cramping in his left hamstring while covering first base in Wednesday night’s game. He limped off the field. Shawn Fcasni, one of the Phillies’ athletic trainers, put Bailey through a series of tests on the field before Thursday’s game. It has not been decided weather he will be clear to pitch in Friday’s game
Andres Blanco connects on his third homer of 2016, a solo blast to right-center field that ties the game at 2 in the 3rd
Giants (30–43) relievers entered Wednesday with a 3.84 ERA (which ranked 14th in the majors) and averaging 7.3 strikeouts per nine innings (27th in the majors). On Wednesday, they pitched six scoreless innings and struck out nine.
Going into the match up between the Giants and Phillies, it is evident that with the records that both teams display currently, Giants would have the better advantage going in. As a team with a winning record, it is easily predictable that Giants will advance out of this series. Versus a team with a losing season and multiple injuries among their star players in the Phillies.
