Stop Shaving Your Legs, but Don’t Say It’s For Feminism
That’s bullshit.
I read a story the other day about a girl who wanted to wear shorts one day, but she didn’t feel like shaving her legs. Then she realized that she didn’t actually care about shaving her legs and that she was giving in to societal pressure. Now she’s posting month by month updates of all the leg hair she’s got going on. She even dyes it colors.
Kudos to her. If you don’t want to have your legs, you don’t have to. If you want to dye your leg hair, then do it. But don’t say it’s for feminism or any cause other than your own.
As the feminist you claim to be, I expect you to know that shaving your legs has absolutely nothing to do with being a woman. And abstaining from an activity that only affects you and the people who choose to come into contact with you doesn’t prove any points whatsoever.
I personally have a love/hate relationship with shaving my legs. I hate to shave them, but I love clean sheets and freshly shaved legs. Hell, I love my freshly shaved legs against each other. It feels so smooth. **heart-eyed emoji** And if I don’t feel like shaving my legs, I don’t. And I still wear shorts. No problem.
The problem with this non-feminine, feminist movement that’s going around is just that…. it’s not feminine. Half the battle it seems is showing men just how manly we can be while still having a vagina.
Why don’t we instead show them that we can be feminine and strong. Or female and not feminine. Why don’t we, instead, show people that we are first who we are, and second female.
