The Groundhog And The Bucket

Last night I wanted to revisit some good old memories. I watched Groundhog Day one more really pleasant time. What I found out is: You can not revisit old memories by watching a movie you like, one more time. You can not help but make new memories watching this movie. Just because you keep on learning. Life is about learning an I learned a lot by watching Groundhog Day last night. About me and about life in general. So I decided to share my learnings with the word.

Groundhog Day

If you don’t know what I am talking about, please watch Groundhog Day. Groundhog Day is a comedy from 1993, starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, and Chris Elliott. Murray plays Phil Connors, a TV weatherman who, during an assignment covering the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, finds himself in a time loop, repeating the same day again and again. Just take a look at the trailer.

The Groundhog And The Bucket

Last night, when I watched one reporter stuck in a time loop, repeating the same day again one thought came to me: Why do we not see our own a time loop? Even though time goes on, we repeat the last day again and again. Do we not? Most of the time we do not reflect on the day. We do not reflect on our life and we do not change the aspects we do not like to make our lifes better. But why not? I do not want to give to much away of the movie. Maybe you have not seen it yet. But last night it appeared to me that Phil, the reporter in the time loop, used a good portion of his repeating day to do things many people would put on their bucketlist. A bucketlist is a list of things to do before you die or as the term says:”kick the bucket”. So I watched the movie and thought: He does so many thigs I would have on my bucketlist. Such as learning to play the piano. And then I thought: Why do I even have a bucketlist?

Every day is unique: Live it! I decided a bucketlist is no good. It is just a list. A way to put good things in a place to be visible and pile up. Most people, like me, just write cool things on it and not really do them. Most of us would need to be stuck in Groundhog Day to do things that are on our bucketlist. But very day is unique and time does not stand still. So I say: Do not write a bucketlist. Just treat every day as a unique gift, listen to your wants and needs and live it! Have fun on your journey.
