Quarterly Themes

In the spirit of embracing progress over perfection, welcome to my blog!

Why settle for a month or a year when you can live in quarterly chunks? That’s been my motto for the past year. I’ve adopted the strategy of quarterly themes, dividing the year into manageable quarters, each with a specific focus.

The breakdown:

  • One quarter for indulging in passions like traveling.
  • Another is for chasing physical feats, like completing a marathon.
  • And two quarters devoted to peak performance at work.

These themes are flexible; they guide decisions rather than dictate them. For example, during a quarter dedicated to a physical goal, I’d go to sleep early rather than burn the midnight oil.

Highlights from the January-March 2024 quarter:

  • Hit the gym consistently, achieving personal best in deadlifts and back squats.
  • Embarked on epic trips to Greece, Netherlands, Spain, and Mumbai with college wingies.
  • Cut screen time by uninstalling social media apps and dropping phone usage by 40%.
  • I relocated closer to work and bid farewell to my brother’s living room.
  • I hit a rating of 1300 on Lichess in Rapid chess.

Lessons learned and challenges faced:

  • Working from home isn’t my jam; I need that office vibe.
  • Battled with recurring vices and procrastination.
  • Meditation never quite took off, and weekends often felt underutilized.
  • There’s room for professional growth, I’d need to challenge myself more.

Now, onto the next quarter — work mode. Here’s the game plan:

  • Drive significant progress in my team’s OKRs.
  • Rekindle my reading habit with classics, fiction, and non-fiction.
  • Commit to daily meditation
  • Delve deeper into AI in marketing.
  • Aim for a chess ELO of 1500 and prioritize therapy for personal growth.

What I’ll dial back on:

  • Gym sessions solely focused on setting new personal records.
  • Lengthy trips, sticking to weekend getaways for now.
  • Social engagements in general.

Tactically, I’m aiming to banish zero days. As they say, “No more zeros!” Even if it’s just one sentence, one pushup, or one page, I’m committed to making every day count.

So, here’s to embracing the power of quarterly themes, and making each day count!
