Why do we choose to text instead of talk?

It’s easy to see people are sending messages everywhere. And they often use text not to talk in person, but talking is more convenient than sending text, why they are not doing that?
I think it’s because many people have telephone phobia, a phobia that which someone is scared to talk with others on the phone. Aside from the telephone phobia, the more possible reason is that many people don’t like to talk to others in this society. People are more empty to treat others, it’s not a good thing.
Maybe in the future, many people will forget to use polite ways to communicate, hope everyone can focus on others and talk in person.
