It’s so sad that anybody has to have this ‘talk’ at all. Just today at work, my colleagues and I were talking about this…none of us (all women) have had this talk. We’ve had others of course…you know the whole “don’t leave your drink unattended”, “check the backseat before you get in your car and lock the door immediately once you’re in”, etc, but not this one.
Our experiences are different than our brothers, husbands, or sons experiences. I have two brothers — both tall brown guys, one with a turban, I’m worried about them now. My colleague, a black woman from Guyana, spoke about a new fear for her nephew. We’re Canadian…the fear, uncertainty, and unfairness of this all has crossed the border to us here. We will now be having ‘the talk’ with our loved ones.
