Gas guzzling automobiles are one of the biggest contributors to climate change. The gigantic amount of carbon dioxide regular gas cars produce over their lifetime is changing the ecosystem forever, and not in a positive way. Even as bad as it is, everyone can’t just stop using cars or other forms of transport to save the environment; people have jobs, need to go grocery shopping, and have other necessities. However, an alternative to gas cars has been making quite the appearance lately. Electric cars are becoming a mainstream way to be eco-friendly. An increase in oil and gas prices have also contributed to the gaining popularity in battery powered cars. Should people invest more into buying EVs? …
We all know what fracking looks like in Colorado now. Those tall, ugly structures pop up everywhere and obscure the view of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. However, this is the least of our concerns when it comes to oil drilling. Many Coloradans are fighting against having these structures so close to busy buildings and social areas, because of public health and safety concerns. As citizens of colorful Colorado, we need to vote ‘yes’ on Proposition 112 and ensure oil and gas companies have a 2,500-foot buffer radius between themselves and populated areas.
Currently, oil wells have a regulation to stay 500 feet away from homes and 1,000 feet away from schools. Prop 112 increases the boundary that separates fracking sites and vulnerable areas. As described in Jennifer Kovaleski’s “Proposition 112: Will it Protect or Harm Colorado?”, vulnerable areas are mainly “homes, schools, playgrounds and water sources.” Kovaleski explains that drill rigs already within the 2,500 foot radius are allowed to remain there, but all new rigs will be set back past the required length. …
Throughout my whole life, and probably yours as well, we’ve heard of the impending doom that is the depletion of the ozone layer. Basically, that means all the chemicals, especially carbon dioxide, we are pumping into the atmosphere are scraping away at the main line of defense against solar flares and radiation from the sun. Of course, humans driving cars isn’t the only source of damage; agriculture, animals, and deforestation are all air pollution contributors. After I did a little searching and reading, I discovered seaweed could be a remedy for negative environmental changes.
Most of us don’t realize how much seaweed is utilized in everyday products, from delicious sushi, toothpaste, makeup, fertilizers, and so much more. The health benefits for humans mainly include the rich nutrients it contains from the years it spends submerged in salt-water and swaying along the fertile sea floor. We obtain these nutrients by either directly eating seaweed or even applying it to our skin to give it a nice hydrating glow. Despite these personal benefits, there are even greater environmental interests. Seaweeds provide around 50% of the oxygen we breathe, can be used as a form of energy, and can also be an alternative for plastic bottles. …

You’ll pay every week for a few energy drinks, hundreds of dollars for an iPhone, and thousands for that colossal truck or SUV you’ve always wanted. How much would you be willing to pay to protect the environment? Hopefully as much as you would offer for a brand new four-by-four. It’s never easy to convince people to change their lifestyle simply because it’s toxic for the ecosystem around them, for example, only few would agree to taking shorter showers to reduce water waste or altering what produce/household items they buy. …
