Anything can be a symbol of hatred eventually. Where do we draw the line?

I’m not trying to be difficult, Meg. Honestly. I just don’t want the violent racists to win at co-opting the flag at all. I’m afraid that as long as we keep pushing the message that that’s what it’s becoming, it will eventually become that for everybody. A self-fulfilling prophecy kind of thing.

Let’s say we change our flag. We decide it should be black with peace signs and rainbows. If the racist assholes co-opt that, what then?

You know, for a long time, I was afraid to wear my mezuzah or my Star of David. I learned early on that some people thought Jews were Christ killers (not my words). I was afraid of offending others. Finally, I had enough. Good or bad, being Jewish is part of my history.
