#TinyChallenges: The April No-Spend
Happy Birthday

Today marks my best friend’s birthday. I’ve known her a looooong time. Going back to 5th grade. She once compared our friendship to two little tug boats constantly connected, yet not always bumping against each other.
As we get older, as we have relationships, and marriages, and divorces, and kids, and pets, and work, and travel, and and and…it just comes to pass that you don’t always see your friends. And that’s okay. Because she’s there. She’s just always there. And I’m here. I’m always here.
I recently had a pretty vicious and serious panic attack in my car on a Monday morning before work. There was no doubt in my mind who to reach out to first. And, there she was. I didn’t have to explain anything. I just said I was having an attack, and she immediately replied with:

There is so much comfort in knowing there’s another human on this planet who knows me so well, who trusts me, whom I can count on.
And, I’m here. I’m always on call.
We don’t do birthdays, or gifts, or anything basic for each other. So I didn’t break my no-spend challenge buying her anything — because I didn’t. I just said Happy Birthday, and sent my love. I also posted an embarrassing pic of us from high school on Instagram. Haha.
I think one time I sent her flowers for something or other, but her cat ate them. She once randomly gave me a Daenerys Targaryen figurine. I love these out-of-the-blue presents so much more. It’s like, “I saw this, and I thought of you.”
My birthday is in June, so we’ll meet up in between for some serious pancake consumption, and a super long talk at Denny’s. Other than that,
we’re just here…
