Superorder Basics: Mastering External Triggers

The Nature of Delayed Trading
Probably, you noticed a new order type called External Trigger. According to the name, this action is activated from the outside, for example, via email or POST request. Means, this element will remain inactive in all other cases. It can act as an automated pause in your trading strategies or as reactions to signals.
Actually, delayed orders are widely used in algorithmic trading. Users often call them webhooks — just like chain hooks that cling something and deliver it to you. These digital hooks are similar. It’s enough to pull the trigger to activate it and continue the strategy. Let’s see how this feature works in the terminal.
Ways to Use External Triggers
TradingView
Mainly, External Triggers work wonderfully for signals automation. TradingView added webhooks less than a month ago but this feature was highly anticipated. Now, Superorder users can use these alerts, too.
To create the link between our platform and TradingView, put the External Trigger action, firstly. Choose the Webhook URL option and copy the link provided. Note that you can place these triggers at any place. When you’re done, run the strategy.
Further, let’s define external signals for the trigger created earlier:
- Open the target TradingView chart. For example, BTC/USDT for Binance.
- Create an alert using the button from the upper menu or via Alt + A.
- Tune your alert by setting conditions, repeat options, expiration, and text.
- Tick the Webhook URL box and paste the link from Superorder there.
- Tap Create to enable your alert.
That’s it. The magic begins when the desired conditions are met. TradingView executes your alert and sends a POST request to the target platform — Superorder. The terminal activates the External Trigger and your strategy continues.
Important! Only users with paid TradingView plans can set webhooks.
Alternatively, our triggers can work with user emails. If you don’t have a TradingView account or don’t need external signals, choose the Email tab in the External Trigger’s preferences. There are two lines:
- Send Email To — paste this text in the address line.
- With Text — paste this in the body of your email.
This trigger will act as a pause controlled by a trader only. In the running strategy, it will remain disabled until you send the email. Thus, to execute everything properly, follow a simple algorithm: create a strategy with the External Trigger and run it, copy-paste the described texts in your email, send this email. Superorder will execute the trigger and your strategy will go further.
Benefits of External Triggers
In the examples above, we used triggers for two different goals: to get a signal and to pause/run strategy automatically. Let’s clarify the importance of both points:
- External signals. We at Superorder work hard to integrate new conditionals. But TradingView has far more of them. With external platforms, you can enjoy conditions based on volume, technical indicators, and dozens of other parameters. Through webhooks, all these conditions can be integrated into your strategy.
- Auto pause. Surely, it’s easy to pause the strategy inside the terminal. But imagine if you want to create a really comprehensive chain that should be stopped at a specific point. It’d be ridiculous to do this manually when you enjoy the full automation. In this case, External Triggers help a lot.
Still, there are more use cases. You can link other signal sources to improve your trading efficiency, combine internal Superorder alerts with external ones, control strategies without direct access to the terminal, and more.
