As distasteful as it is to think there is any upside to Trump, I think you’re right.

He’s kind of shining a glaring spotlight on the underbelly of American xenophobic hate and making it really tangible and visible to the media. And he’s probably also making it visible to people who would consider themselves ‘moderate’ and would ordinarily label the hate perpetrators as ‘fringe’ but are now forced to acknowledge how really widespread and pervasive the hate really is.
