Five Obscure Facts about Storm

Storm is one of the most iconic figures in comics today, but how much do you really know about her? There are the basics that everyone knows like:she’s married to Black Panther or that her name is Ororo Monroe, but there’s a lot more to the character than many think. So here are five facts about the mutant Storm you may not know:

She’s a Lost Kenyan Princess

Storm was born as Ororo Monroe in New York to the Kenyan tribal princess D’Nare. After Ororo turned one her parents moved to Cairo Egypt with her, but tragedy would strike in just a few years. Around the time of Ororo’s sixth birthday a plane crashed into her home killing both of her parents and trapping her in the rubble.

She’s Extremely Claustrophobic

After the plane crash that killed her parents trapped her in the rubble of her home, Storm was left with an extreme case of claustrophobia. Her fear was so intense that even being trapped in a small space for any amount of time left her terrified and unable to function. This almost resulted in the defeat of the X-Men on several occasions.

She Grew Up a Thief on the Streets of Cairo

After being set free from the wreckage of her home she began wandering the streets until she was taken in by street lord Achmed el-Gibar who taught her to be a thief. Storm would spend several years as a thief becoming quite proficient. She was even able to get away with stealing the wallet of Professor Xavier himself, when he was visiting Cairo to see the Shadow Master.

She Was Worshiped as a Goddess

After wandering into the desert, Ororo was adopted by a witch-priestess by Ainet after developing her powers. She first used her powers to bring rain for her tribe but upset the natural weather pattern. Learning from this Ororo began spreading the rain out over the Serengeti and soon became worshiped by local tribesman as the Goddess of Rain.

She Keeps a Set of Lock Picks on Her at All Times

They say old habits die hard, and that proves true even with heroes. Storm keeps a set of lock picks on her at all times. She has only had to use them a few times but they were instrumental in helping her escape capture once when she lost function of both her arms and legs. Letting her pick a lock using just her teeth.
