On November 30, 2019, we organized a one day hackathon for tech students. The event was organized by Frontenders Community Nepal & Women Leaders in Technology. The event saw participants of over 80 students. It was a surreal moment for all of us and we are so very glad to receive positive reception and support. The kind words from mentors, judges and participants at the end of the day felt so satisfying and provided a sense of accomplishment. On behalf of my team, I would like to thank everyone for supporting and helping to make this event possible and successful.

The story

I feel like the environment in the hackathon is so much fun and exciting. You get to meet with like minded people, challenge yourself to your limit, bring your crazy ideas and build innovate solutions. All of us from our team have fond memories of our first hackathon and tech events. We always wanted to organize an event where people feel the same excitement and pleasant experiences.

On May 1, F8 2019 meetup was organized by Developer Circles Kathmandu at Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu. I along with my friends from Fusemachines, WLiT & Frontenders Community Nepal participated in the event. There was inspiring talks by leads of different tech communities of Kathmandu. It felt the right time to share our vision of hackathon with the tech community. We did not event have a name and we would have to thank Jagatjyoti for coming with the name for hackathon ie Hack Fest Kathmandu.

Why student level hackathon ?

Students are so full of ideas, creativity and enthusiasm. Student life is probably the best time of everyone’s life. Students bring so much of excitement, energy and positive vibes. We believed students hackathon would create inspirational and majestic atmosphere in the hackathon.

Today’s Students Are the Developers of Tomorrow

We wanted to provide a platform where students could work collaboratively in a group to realize their crazy and innovative ideas with the help of professionals. We hoped that students will have exposure to IT companies that would be helpful to prepare for their internship or job opportunities. Besides, hackthons are also the best place to make new friends, network with professionals and have a lot of fun all along.
