Over the past 30 years, Surajdeen Afolabi has been involved in the oil and gas industry in both upstream and downstream capacities. Known as an accomplished contracting & procurement strategist in the Nigerian oil & gas industry, he is at the forefront of supply chain practice.
Surajdeen Afolabi’s Work Experience
He served as NNPC's Group General Manager Research & Development (R&D) and the Chief Executive Officer of its science and technology research center. Previously, he held senior positions in IT and transformation before becoming Group General Manager LNG Investment, responsible for managing Nigeria's investment in all LNG ventures (NLNG, Brass, OKLNG, etc.). His motivational and reformatory skills are second to none. NNPC employed him for over two decades, where he served as Senior Adviser - Supply Chain.
Surajdeen Afolabi’s Education
Afolabi earned a Master of Science in Marine Transportation from the State University of New York, Maritime College, USA, and a Ph.D. in Regional Development & Environmental Science from the University of Port Harcourt after studying transportation planning at the Centre for Business Studies, U.K. He has been responsible for several change initiatives that have led to savings and process improvements worth millions of dollars. In 2004, he joined CIPS, the U.K., as a pioneer Councilor representing Africa, and was elected to its governing council as pioneer councilor representing Africa. A member of the Supply Chain Management Council and Board, he was appointed Vice President in 2008 and Global President in 2009, becoming the first non-European to be appointed to the position.
Surajdeen Afolabi’s Experience as a Senior Manager
In his capacity as a senior manager, he attended prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Columbia, Wharton, and Cranfield. The Public Procurement Act was greatly influenced by him during its development. He was appointed Adjunct Professor of Strategic Supply Chain by the University of Fort Hare in South Africa in 2007 where he supervised postgraduate students.
Surajdeen Afolabi’s Consulting Roles
Along with his numerous consulting roles in oil and gas, strategic supply chain management, commercial leadership, arbitration, business planning, development, and a host of other cutting edge hedge consulting services, including investment advisory, forex AI intelligence, and capital market trading, he teaches MBA Strategic Supply Chain at the Malaysian University of Science and Technology, Lagos and Abuja.
Surajdeen Afolabi’s Involvement in Professional or Social Development
Whenever Afolabi is involved in professional or social development, he shows a great deal of capability. During Nigeria's 50th independence anniversary celebrations in 2010, he hosted the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and many other local and international dignitaries at IBB International Golf & Country Club, Abuja. As a resource, he frequently participates in management development programs.

Having received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Supply Chain Excellence, being a Paul Harris Fellow, being an avid golfer, and being an author, Surajdeen Afolabi has an impressive list of articles and academic publications to his name. His experience in international arbitration makes him a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Chartered Arbitrators. As a supply chain management expert, he has won many awards.
