A dance in the rain

Uff what a day. It started with same old routine, I woke up at 7 but layed in bed for another 45 minutes. Finally forced myself to get up. Read the headlines while brushing teeth. Same old, some good, some bad news.

Nothing unusual until afternoon. I was surfing internet boringly. And then I felt a breeze of wind hit my face. I looked up from my laptop to the window, the sky’s color has changed from crystal blue to dark grey.

I heared the clouds crackling sound. I raced to the roof just in time to take inside the dried clothes hanging from the rope. And a minute later, it started raining. The smell of wet soil felt so pleasant, almost nostalgic. For a moment I returned to my childhood memories.

I remembered how the neighbor kids and I used to dance and sing happily in rain. We had absolutely no worries, had simple games to play like making paperboats, splashing the rain water with our feet.

Suddenly I heared my name being called, it was from my nieces, it brought me back to the present. I looked from my room’s gallery to the porch underneath and saw both of them, along with their mothers shouting and dancing in the rain. I smiled and told’em, I’m coming downstairs.

I stepped out of the door, it was raining heavily, I looked above and saw nothing but entire sky covered with white clouds, and it looked like it will rain incessantly. I took some pictures. Nothing looks as beautiful as rainfall.

It had rained so heavily that water from the roof started sinking to the living room, through the stairs. I went up and saw that the ceiling had become a shallow pool. My family became nuts when they saw so much water. But we managed to undry our wet house, after a while. Quite a laborious work. Huff.

My mother made us some snacks and tea. I hurriedly ate a few samosas. Then we played antakshri (an Indian game in which one has to sing a song starting from the last letter of the previous one.) I had played it in a long time, so it was quite refreshing.

So I can say that the usual boring day became an interesting and memorable one. I guess one can never expect how things turn out to be. How one rainfall brings smile to people’s face and make kids dance in the rain.
