A satisfactory deed
“Sonuuuu….” A mother cried and called her son’s name, rushed to save him from almost being hit by a speeding car on the highway road when a tea stall owner named Shankar pulled him away just in time.
Shankar was serving tea to a customer when he saw a car coming towards a kid who was playing with her mother’s phone, completely unaware of the car. Shankar dropped the kettle and ran as fast as he could to move the kid away from road.
“Are you ok son?”, Shankar asked. “I am fine, uncle”, Sonu replied. At that instant, Sonu’s mother and father came running towards him. They hugged him tightly and thanked Shankar for saving his son’s life.
Shankar looked at them for a moment and then walked away. He picked up the kettle and moved back to his stall.
The tea stall was small but had all basic supplies. It had a stove, utensils for boling tea, packet of chips, biscuites and cigarettes. A picture of a young boy hanged next to goddess durga’s picture. The boy in the picture was Shankar’s 5 year old son named Chaggan. He died in a road accident ten months back.
Shankar came inside the stall and started preparing tea. He looked at the picture of Chaggan. A sense of satisfaction come to his heart. He couldn’t save his son, but saved someone else’s Chaggan.
