INTRODUCTION

Artificial Intelligence is marking its remarkable presence in every sector. When people are sensing the importance of maintaining social distancing at this time, adaption of AI in almost every pace is seemingly increasing. Some of the field where it is doing notable works are as follows:

IN MEDICARE

Artificial Intelligence helps to develop a new diagnosis and management system. Technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, GIS and Mapping, Location Technology and autonomous machines are playing a growing role in responding to COVID- 19 pandemic. Some of its major contributions are are given below:

  1. Drug and vaccine development:

Many researchers, doctors, institutes are working round the clock for finding cure to this Virus. It is the most pivotal task of the time and everybody want this to completed as fast as possible. Many trials and testing are going on. AI is serving its role in easing the completion of this crucial task. AI tools and techniques can help policymakers and the medical community understand the COVID-19 virus and accelerate research on treatments by rapidly analyzing large volumes of research data. AI text and data mining tools can uncover the virus’ history, transmission, and diagnostics, management measures, and learn lessons from previous epidemics. Several institutions are using AI to identify treatments and develop prototype vaccines. DeepMind and several other organizations have used deep learning to predict the structure of proteins associated with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. DeepMind, the AI arm of Google’s parent company Alphabet, is using data on genomes to predict organisms’ protein structure, potentially shedding light on which drugs could work against COVID-19.

2. Contact tracing:

AI tools can help identify virus transmission chains and monitor broader economic impacts. With the help of Machine learning algorithms and GIS, government is able to trace each and every person who came in contact of COVID- 19 patient directly or travelled through any such place and could be a suspect of being affected due to COVID- 19. That data is updated real time, and using big data analysis techniques, it became possible to keep record of and reach out to every person got affected and also aware those could get infected so that they can take precautionary measures on time. Rapid diagnosis is key to limit contagion and understand the disease spread. Applied to images and symptom data, AI could help to rapidly diagnose COVID-19 cases.

3. Maintaining Social Distancing:

It became extremely important need of this time. Eventually, AI can also helping us in following this life saving measure. Some AI enabled devices have been built that informs us as soon as we came close to someone in well defined range. Companies are also deploying such devices so that they can make their employees to keep a safe distance from each other.

4. Reducing Workload of health workers:

With such sudden and drastic increase in the number of patients, it really became so hard for health care workers to manage such situation. Even after working for so many hours each day workload on their shoulders keep increasing. In this time, many robots and AI enabled tools are started using significantly. Usage of Automated robots not only reduces volume of work but also helping health workers to keep safe distance from patients without affecting the quality of treatment as these robots are able to keep track of medicines, recording blood pressure, temperature and so on. Semi-autonomous robots and drones are being deployed to respond to immediate needs in hospitals such as delivering food and medications, cleaning and sterilization, aiding doctors and nurses, and performing deliveries of equipment. AI may also eventually play a role in accelerating training and education of healthcare personnel.

5. Self- checker services: —

Corona virus Self- Checker services are developed by many institutes to help people self assess themselves for symptoms if they suspect to being affected. Note that they are not the substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, and treatments. Instead, its purpose is to help people to make decisions about seeking appropriate medical care. One such example is as follows. The United States’ Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Microsoft have developed a coronavirus self-checker service to help users self-assess COVID-19 and suggest a course of action. It is also using for identifying, finding and contacting vulnerable, high-risk, individuals.

IN COMMERICAL WORLD

The fallout of COVID- 19 pandemic is beginning to look like the biggest economic shock in over half a century, the 2008 financial crisis included. This time proves really so hard for many firms especially for small and medium scale industries to retain but adopting AI might ease their tasks. Some changed this tragedy to opportunity and finding innovative and creative measures to transform the way to grow. Some examples are given as follows:

  1. Fashion Industry:
https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.cf9e402b7dc48ff7aa2ee922fa728743?rik=xDE%2fPsZZafQ%2boQ&riu=http%3a%2f%2fimg.koreatimes.co.kr%2fupload%2fnewsV2%2fimages%2f201810%2fed3c7757bda94ef69ecf0fe8f5b9e0fa.jpg%2fdims%2fresize%2f740%2foptimize&ehk=mldHmCOTfee3OvbLzG8ACZaE70wKJmcRxgfPNLpPcRk%3d&risl=&pid=ImgRaw&r=0

While many industries have already been hard hit, the fashion industry seems vulnerable to a long drawn out recovery, due to the discretionary nature of consumer spending on clothes. Innovation and digital acceleration will be at the middle trying to already accelerate consumer trends like personalization and consumer experience. Virtual trial rooms are the latest addition to fashion retail from the AI Armory. They simulate the trial room experience on a large screen, using computer vision- enabled cameras. AI has the potential to completely transform the fashion industry. From augmented reality powered dressing rooms, to delivery by AI powered drones, an industry ripe for disruption may just be pushed into embracing long- overdue technology by the coronavirus- induced market shock.

2. Work From Home:

In the period of Lockdown, when people couldn’t go outside of even their homes, it became tough for industries to continue working especially for small and medium scale as people couldn’t reach to their workplaces. In this situation, for many firms work from home option became an option of their survival for which it is possible to adopt it. It is saving livelihood and survival of many firms and their employees.

3. Many industries are working to built a secure remote working strategy for the business. Implementations of cloud-based applications and virtual private networks are supporting effective and secure operations, even at a time when thousands of office workers are displaced to their homes due to social-distancing rules.

4. Larsen and Turbo (L&T), India’s biggest engineering conglomerate, is using new technologies, artificial intelligence and its digital platforms to support local authorities in 20 cities of India so that they can monitor and implement measures to help combat the spread of Covid- 19. In India, L&T ha partnered with municipals and police agencies to setup technologies and manage command and control centers or city operations centers in cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Prayagraj, Ahmedabad, Vishakhapatnam and Hyderabad.

BY GOVERNMENT

  1. Disinfecting suspected places: —

To disinfect public spaces and prevent the further spread of COVID-19, health authorities are deploying agriculture spray drones to carry out tasks like spraying disinfectant in potentially affected areas. These spraying drones are filled with disinfectants and can cover much more ground in less time and 50 times faster than traditional methods. countries like India, Indonesia, Philippines, Colombia, Chile, and the UAE have successfully used disinfecting drones to control the spread of coronavirus. In Europe, Spain was the first country to use agriculture drones for disinfecting large public places. These drones are easy to operate, inexpensive and can be quickly mobilized, in addition to reducing the risk of health and sanitation workers getting exposed to both the virus and the disinfectant.

2. Policy Formulation and decision making:

https://www.insperity.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/5-smart-strategies-for-balancing-collaboration-and-decision-making-1-1200x630.png

To have a proper control over the situation in Medicare (number of beds, equipment, availability of staff, healthcare workers etc. in hospitals) as well as Economic (working conditions of industries, sector wise occupation losses, etc.) scenario, Government requires bona fide description of current prevailing conditions. Big data Analysis and Machine learning tools are using extensively for collecting real time data so that proper upgradation of existing information is being possible on time which in turn helping not only in making correct decisions and policy formulation but also updating and make necessary changes as required.

3. Prediction:-

If it is possible to predict in well advance the possible hike in number of cases, severe cases, death rate then it will surely help to make proper arrangements such as number of beds required, ventilators and I.C.U. beds for more vulnerable patients, medical attention requirement for mild patients and so on. Thankfully, it is possible in current situation with the usage of technologies available for forecasting, time series analysis, deep learning, real time data analysis, big data analysis so that potential upcoming requirements could be fulfilled.

CONCLUSION

AI proves its influential presence in most important of this time health care sector to pre- diagnose the suspect of being affected due to corona virus, contact tracing and a lot more.

Though it is a very hard time for many industries to continue and manage but it also giving an opportunity to embrace AI enabled services and technologies for the betterment of their business growth in terms of adopting new ways to bring business online and exploring new innovative ways to adapt changes and grow anyway.
