A letter to NGT with Love

An expert panel informs NGT that The Art of Living has destroyed Yamuna flood plains for World Culture Festival. More..

So I decided to write a letter to the #NationalGreenTribunal

Dear National Green Tribunal,

Stand up from the cushion seats in air conditioned rooms and walk out of your Faridkot house office in the lavish Lutyens’ Delhi. Come to states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Andhra. Rivers which were comatose in debris and plastic are now overflowing. While the proclaimers lifted the debris, volunteers mixed the mud with sweat and blood to restore as many as 22 rivers. You work 9AM-5PM. But we work 24 hours. You take salaries. We don’t! You have a boss who tells you to do! We tell ourselves what to do. Listen to the accounts of those farmers who look up at the sky because they know there is no point looking at Delhi. When the Govt. lifted its hands helplessly, we joined our hands effortlessly to bring back rivers to life! You know what? You do your job because at the end of every 3 years there is a mandatory promotion waiting for you but we do it because we want to see the smile planted on every last farmer’s face on whose blood this 1.25 billion country thrives upon! And yes, we damaged the Yamuna flood plains! Do you know that 58% of the NCR’s waste goes into Yamuna unprocessed daily! Do you know that 1.9 billion litres of Delhi’s sewage goes into the river daily? Do you know that the government calls Yamuna a “Nallah”? And yes, we Art of Living (@ArtofLiving) have destroyed the eco-system and habitat of a river where practically life doesn’t even exist in the remotest of the ways. You and I may be blind but the satellites aren’t!

With Love,
One of those million The Art of Living volunteers.
