How can you say “we cannot expect Muslim scholars to contradict actions permitted by Islam”? If biblical scholars, Christian or Jewish, were to stand by and permit rigid bible-followers to practice all of the hideous punishments mentioned in the Bible, without speaking out about how biblical interpretations have evolved or become obsolete over time, in keeping with the evolution of modern people, and how religious reformations have occurred for centuries, creating modernized approaches to Christianity and Judaism, then those alleged “scholars” would be mere useless bystanders and accomplices to terrorism justified by obsolete words. It is incumbent upon the most learned in any religion to stand up and educate, to denounce the perversion of their religion into a divisive and destructive force. If they remain silent, and people think, as you said, that we cannot expect them to do what is absolutely expected of them, then how can they call themselves scholars? Their silence makes them traitors to their faith by allowing it to be hijacked, and traitors to their people whom they have failed to lead along the path of beauty and righteousness which does exist in their religion.
