Dear Bernie,

Thank you so much for choosing this path.

While I am not pleased by the voting choices, it’s imperative that Trump not gain the White House. That would be utterly devastating to our country in many ways — from the spread of xenophobia to the continued coddling of the billionaire class to the utter devastation he would inflict on innovation in our economy.

The strategy of supporting the Democratic party while continuing to advance progressive core missions is the only path.

People who chose not to vote are like Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Hamlet wasn’t happy about his options so he did nothing. He chose his own death by doing nothing.

Voters who do not choose are choosing their own dead end. Life doesn’t always give us the circumstances we want. Maybe we don’t like that we have to play strategy games when all we want are ideal choices. Life is not perfect. We can chose to lay down in the road and let Trump run us over or we can chose to stand up, and march on.

The march is always longer than we anticipated. Just look at the Black Lives Matter movement as an example. We can march on or we can lay our vote down and let others march over it.
