Interesting perspective, Bryant Hodson — true that many applications are empowering users to create their own stories—I think today more than ever. But I think the “story-like” aspect of the designed experience depends what you’re designing, whether it’s primarily content or application. There are many parallels and dissimilarities between film and interactive media—linearity vs. circularity or repetition would be a primary difference; another would be emphasis on emotion vs. cognition, though even that varies.
