Pancha daan in Newari Culture

Ever heard about the art of giving ?
That’s what Pancha daan is about.

This culture of giving is deep rooted to Buddhism.
(Not talking about Buddhism here though)

The main idea is that when you give away something to someone then you feel a unique kind of pleasure as long as you are doing it by pure heart. See, when you give you’re not expecting that you’ll get something back out of it. It’s a means of purifying your heart.
If you don’t feel like it then don’t give away. It’s no force to have to do it.

We Newars celebrate the culture of giving once a year. People usually stay in bahal and bahis and giveaway stuff like: rice, money e.t.c to people. So, if you visit cities like : Kathmandu , Lalitpur in that time of the year you’ll get to experience this culture and people will happily give something to you as well.
