Why does Google Play Services exist on your phone?
-Explained by Sushanth Shajil
Ever wondered why Google play services is installed on your phone? If you tap on it, it basically does nothing.
In some versions, it opens a menu which you have no idea what to do with. Let me explain why you can’t get rid of it.
If you were an Android user a few years ago. You would know.
Back then, when later versions of Android took over, Google introduced new features and integrated it into apps like Google Maps, YouTube and Gmail. But the only downfall was that only a few people who had upgraded to the latest versions of Android could use these features.
Basically, you’d be stuck using the same features you got when you first downloaded these apps.
I know what you might be thinking.
“We would get updates on the app through the PlayStore. Didn’t we?”
Google could make a few minor changes to the app but the problem was that the new changes that Google integrated into the app couldn’t run on your version of Android because it just wasn’t compatible.
Google had to come up with a solution to fix this.
Google play Services was born.
This app would make sure that newer versions of the app that Google released would be compatible on your phone providing you a better experience and a way of letting you get your hands on the latest features that rolled out.
This was a peerless solution that Google had come up with and as it grew, Google integrated more and more features into it that would make users who use apps that depend on Google Play Services more comfortable and reliable.
If you have any more questions as to why this was a major step that Google took, don’t be shy.
