A Brief History: Temujin to Genghis Khan of Mongolia

The Mongol Empire spanning the 13th and 14th centuries stands as a monumental chapter in world history. Founded by Genghis Khan, it grew to become the largest contiguous land empire ever known.

Temujin born along the Mongolia-Siberia border. His early life, marred by violence and tribal strife, shaped his formidable character. Following the poisoning of his father by a rival clan, young Temujin, his mother, and siblings were abandoned by their clan. His path to power began after a tumultuous youth, including his capture and daring escape from a rival clan.

Temujin’s journey to becoming Genghis Khan involved uniting the fractious Mongol tribes. A skilled strategist and leader, he spent over a decade overcoming rival groups like the Tartars, Kereyids, and Naimans. In 1206, he was proclaimed the leader of the Mongols at a tribal assembly known as a kurultai.
