The world has not seen so many efforts to create a green life as now. Large corporations and SMEs use sustainability reporting frameworks to demonstrate that all business processes are eco-friendly and do not harm the environment. More and more individuals think of replacing plastic, diminishing water consummation, etc. The community is united with a common purpose — to save the planet from a catastrophe, and the next ten sustainability initiatives prove it once again.

Examples of Sustainability Initiatives

People should take climate action to prevent the Earth from unwanted circumstances, and help it survive. This is a list of impressive sustainability initiatives that may help people embark on the way of more sustainable living.

1. GBI: A new approach for building homes

An international effort GBI (the green building initiative) is aimed at creating sustainable, and resource-effective buildings. The goal of the green building initiative is establishing a single standard of the best practices for environmentally-friendly constructions and delivering advanced evaluation tools to satisfy sustainability requirements. The organization provides commercial buildings with a certification program if they follow an eco-friendly vision.

2. Groasis Waterboxx: Breathe life into a desert

A Dutch flower explorer created this initiative hoping to bring life to the desert. Pieter Hoff came up with a planting device that makes growing crops in the desert not a fantasy but a reality. The device consists of an “Intelligent bucket” that needs 90% less water in comparison to traditional planting methods; and may be effectively used in any extreme climate around the world.

3. AirCarbon: A sustainable plastic alternative

Newlight Technologies developed AirCarbond and has won several important awards for it. AirCarbon is created from carbon emissions that might be released into the air. Due to eco-friendly content and each step of its production, the product is fully sustainable, offering a cost-efficient alternative to the rest of synthetic elements.

4. Demetra: Extend the shelf life of products organically

Demetra is a great initiative of a startup Green Code, that is aimed at safely saving the product quality. It allows the fruit to ripe by improving the resistance against stresses while exporting and delivering to the shop. Demetra consists of plant extracts for 100%, which allows controlling the product just the same as plants do.

5. PowWow Energy: Reduce water waste

This innovative app is designed for farmers and offers two products: an irrigation advisor and a pump monitor. While using the application, the farmers get a message that allows them to reduce water spending and get the best out of the crops.

6. Bakey’s: Green alternative to plastic

Narayana Peesapaty created Bakey’s with one purpose in mind — to replace plastic cutlery with more eco-friendly alternatives. Usually, plastic is used only once and then is buried in landfills, resulting in increasing the waste every year. Opposite to it, edible cutlery Bakey’s will biodegrade if it is not eaten.

7. Fairphone: The first ethical smartphone

E-waste is one of the most urgent issues in sustainability, that makes many companies and individuals search for some alternatives. This is how a modular smartphone Fairphone has come in. The device was designed with recycling practices in mind. Now you shouldn’t throw a smartphone away if something went wrong; you can easily replace the broken module and go on using the device.

8. The Veganbottle: Get rid of plastic bottles

This initiative allows us to replace the usual plastic bottle with the ones that are made of all-natural bioplastic. Everything from the cap to the bottle wrapper is produced from 100% eco-friendly materials, which are sugar cane extracts. They need less water in comparison to other crops and very little energy.

9. ENGIE Insight: Resources for a sustainable lifestyle

ENGIE Insight is a great initiative that is aimed at improving. The organization provides experts and technology to assist companies in reducing carbon footprint and reaching their other sustainability goals. One of the last projects is GameStop which now involves resource-efficient business tools without harming the environment.

10. Desso Airmaster: Carpet that makes the air fresh

An innovative carpet absorbs dust and the rest of the pollutants, keeping the indoor air fresh and clean. It can be used in office, school or at home. As a result, Desso positively influences the human’s well-being and health.
