On a Mission

John 3:28‭,30 NLT You yourselves know how plainly I told you, ‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.

John the Baptist had a life mission that was simply wrapped up in the statement: ‘I am only here to prepare the way for Him’. So often our lives get caught up in so many different things and we end up going in many different directions , but just like John our life mission should simply be to ‘prepare the way for Him’.

We need to live our lives in such a way that we create a platform for Him to show up and be glorified.

Often we divide our lives and our ministry, the truth however is that our lives ARE our ministry, and even when we don’t preach with words we preach a message with our lives.

Look at what the writer of Hebrews says about our lives:

Hebrews 13:15 NLT Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.

Our lives need to be a ‘continual sacrifice of praise to God’ — this is so much more than words, every area of our lives should praise God.

Our loudest praise shouldn’t be the songs that we sing, rather it should be the lives that we live.

The Christian walk is not about self-promotion but rather it’s about Christ-promotion. It’s a daily walk of becoming less so that He can become more.

Discipleship is a sense is the journey of becoming less and less wrapped in self and more and more wrapped in Him.

Paul echoed this idea when we wrote to the church in Galatia:

Galatians 2:20 NLT My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

We need to live our lives fully depending on and seeking to display Christ to the world around us.

True satisfaction isn’t found in the discovery of self, rather it’s found in the discovery of Christ. We only discover our true selves when we discover who we are on Christ.
