The university where Ruby worked was not at all like anything she had imagined. The classrooms were well equipped with the latest technology of the time, which included smartboards, projectors and easy-to-use controls and sound systems. The labs were conversely extremely ill-equipped with minimal chemicals, biologicals and equipment needed in standard labs. Developing real science and making it interesting took extreme creativity. At first, she was so worried about managing her time — until she met her first classes. Her work schedule for the first semester was only 12 hours a week and with only 8 students! Both she and her colleague Chris constantly asked for confirmation on this, because they simply could not believe it.
