The Trainee Entrepreneur’s Journey (Ch1)

Chapter 1: The Beginning

It’s funny how life turns out sometimes; you think things are going well and then the universe decides to throw you a curve ball and forces you down a new path… a new life journey filled with new experiences and new learnings…

Hello! I see you have stumbled across my blog, well why don’t you stay awhile and maybe walk along on my journey with me. Feel free to venture down a different path if it suits you, you’ll never know what new adventures await you! (Do you picture us all on a group walk somewhere out in nature right now and then someone wanders off? Haha! It’s a funny image in my head.)

So, where to begin… 2015 was a pretty shit year for me… I’m still trying to figure out if it was really a blessing in disguise though. You see, I was happily working as a graphic designer for one company for quite a number of years, but then it closed down and I got made redundant. Luckily enough, I found another job within a week and I was there for a few months, but I’d noticed that the work coming in was becoming less and less. One fateful day my boss sits down and informs me he had to let me go because there just wasn’t enough work coming in. Now to be made redundant twice in a year is quite a kick in the teeth. Upper and lower!

BUT, as fate would have it, I was actually freelancing on the side from time to time to make some extra money. I think if it wasn’t for relying on myself through the freelance work, I probably would’ve been feeling more in the pit of despair than I actually was. Instead, what I felt was freedom, hope, excitement, a new start… A chance to follow my dreams! I was feeling positivity rather than negativity despite the situation I in.

I took it as a sign from the universe; why not start to build up the freelancing into an actual business? I’ll be my own boss, no one can make me redundant except for me, and it will be down to me to make things work. It will be super hard work, but since I love what I do, it will be TOTALLY worth the effort! And you know what they say - if you enjoy what you do and having fun, then it doesn’t really feel like work.

Ever see that movie Divergent? (If you haven’t I say go check it out!) What that movie has taught me is that sometimes you just need to be brave and take that first step and just go for it!

So decision made, I took that plunge and got to work.

“Welcome to Dauntless” as Four would say.
