You’ve got to love a sticky note…
Ahh — sometimes the simple things are the best!
This is how I do the three most important things I need to get done each day.
It’s going to be really short.

First thing in the morning, or the night before, I decide what the three most important things are that I need to do. I write them on a sticky note, and I stick them on the front of my journal. Then I do them, and then I cross them off.
That’s it.
Well, it isn’t entirely it. Sometimes I resist doing them. Sometimes I look at the list and let out a big sigh, because I just don’t want to do them.
Like today.
Because today, there are men on top of my roof, fixing it. They are being very loud (as men who fix roofs often are). They are hammering and sawing. My fella is home (to supervise the men on the roof because I don’t want to have to deal with it, and it’s his roof, so fair enough I say!) and he just handed me a glass of wine at 3.oopm on a Monday!! (which is a really bad idea, because there is a big hole in our roof, right above our only toilet and we should be avoiding liquids like the plague, otherwise we’re going to have to have that embarrassing conversation where we ask the men to move away from the hole in the roof so that we can use the facilities without them curiously peering down at us.) So, given I have a glass of wine in my hand, and hammering in my head, I really don’t fancy doing the ‘writing a blog post’ item on my sticky note.
So I look at it and sigh. And then I get started. Because it’s on the list and it’s not going to get crossed off unless I write the blog post.
And now that I’ve started, I’m quite enjoying it.
And it’s not just the wine, I promise.
I have another trick for when I don’t fancy doing something on the list.
I grab my journal, throw some daggers at the sticky note, then open the journal and I write this.
“3.00pm…I don’t feel like doing anything. I just fancy pottering around on Facebook or Netflix. I’m halfway through the latest episode of Handmaid’s Tale and would quite like to finish it off. BUT, I’m supposed to write a blog post. That horrible Suzi Butcher put it on the sticky note this morning and now it’s just sitting there staring at me whenever I accidentally glance in that direction. Maybe I should just write the blog post. Then I could cross it off the list. Then I only have to do the meter readings, which will only take 10 minutes. And then I will have finished everything on my list and I can watch telly. Hurrah! OK, I’m doing it, I’m doing the blog post…you just watch me…”
And here I am. Writing a blog post.
I can guarantee you, that if I hadn’t put that on my sticky note, I would have wheedled my way out of it. Is it just me who does that?
What’s on your sticky note today?
Suzi Xx
PS. If you enjoyed this little missive, I’d be delighted if you clicked on the clapping hands to the left — it just helps spread the word, and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside as well of course!
