Darksiders genesis is a hack and slash game genre. The game has been developed by the well-known studio Airship Syndicate and published by THQ Nordic. Genesis is the prequel to other Darksiders games (three to be more specific) and introduces the two main characters strife and war as the playable horsemen.

The council tasked strife and his brother war to prevent lucifer ( the lord of all hells) from destroying the balance between hell and power and uncover plots.

The game sequels solo, local and online co-op mode. In the later, two players take the reins of one character each, while in solo mode, you can switch between the two characters. Genesis is broken up into a series of eleven chapters. Each chapter can be played and replayed on different modes and sequences. Strife and War have different power and combat abilities that prove useful in the battle.

PROGRESSIVE FEATURES DURING THE COMBAT.

Those who are familiar with previous games of the franchise, this new architecture and area might seem a little bit confusing, though beautifully designed. Genesis is the first in the series that features more than two horsemen as the main characters. The developer makes it easy to invite a friend before and during the mission. There’re convenient marketplaces where you can buy upgrades for each character. You can further customize both characters using collectible items called creature cores. There are three types of creature cores: Attack, Wrath, and health. Creature cores grants passive bonuses anytime you succeed to match the type of core with the type of slot.

The combat you have always enjoyed in the previous Darksiders is here. Strife is the new protagonist to enter the fray. Strife’s long-range gun moved on enemies from a safe distance. He has seven types of ammo and several dashes to improve his combat abilities. War plays in a style that’s completely different than strife. He plays like he always did in the previous series. The attacks are straight, calculated and powerful. The gamer will be able to cancel any attack with a block.

Aside from the combat, strife and war acquire new abilities and power that enable them to fight in a new environment and reach previously inaccessible areas. Genesis allows gamers to play in a top-down perspective instead of beside or behind the shoulder of each character. This approach is great at making exploration very rewarding and impactful. The game is isometric which means that it falls between two dimensions: 2D and 3D.

LOW POINTS:

  • The map system is not always working: This is by far one of the most significant disadvantages to the design. It is not easy to know the player’s location as the game lacks to display a map or icon to show that.
  • Similar annoying is for sure the camera angle, difficult to control and handle. I have personally experienced this when playing and the walls, bridges and other objects obstructed my view and gaming time. While this might not be a significant drawback for many, I personally love playing in an environment where platforms sections and geometry do not suck.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Darksiders is a hugely popular franchise. Darksiders I, II, III were absolutely fantastic. Darsider1 was really enjoyable, the melodramatic and voice acting was quite good. At the time the game was released, it looked really great because to most gamers, it was similar to the legacy of Kain.

Darksiders II, on the other hand, was a little bit confusing to me. The main character's death was a delight and the diablo-Esque loot was a big plus. However, the gameplay was not challenging and the areas were too similar to the first part.

DarksidersIII though a little bit disappointing in the overall storyline, made great improvement in the combat style. Darksiders Genesis does show a very promising game to look forward to. The game is already available on Pc and google Stadia, console versions coming next month.
